The Dual Burden

Jaruul carries both Primus and Orcus within him, as identified by High Priest Dorn Velmor. This duality is deeply dangerous.

Dark Vision

Jaruul had a vision of himself becoming the destroyer of Mechanus under the influence of Orcus:

“The hollow one fills the void.”

Personality

  • Chaotic and unpredictable
  • Uses his Deck of Illusions liberally (summoned an illusory giant to scare Joey Lokbrass)
  • Creative problem-solver who favors dramatic solutions
  • Once tried to attack High Priest Dorn Velmor in his sleep but changed his mind

Key Moments

  • Jumped inside a Hydra to cast Thunderwave from within; burrowed into its wound
  • Created statues of the party for the banquet
  • Impersonated Joey Lokbrass using Disguise Self and accused the real Joey of being a fake in front of his brothers, throwing them into confusion
  • Summoned illusory giant from the Deck of Illusions to terrorize Joey Lokbrass, leading to a massive discount
  • Considered attacking High Priest Dorn Velmor in his sleep — ultimately chose not to
  • Supported the party against Sylva Goldenroar with Twin Haste, Mirror Image, a protective wall, and Aid — dodged assassin strikes with acrobatic flair
  • Tipped the bard Viral 1 gold at the Ambercup and requested “the hottest song in town” — Viral played Hot and Cold
  • Challenged patrons at the Ambercup to an arm wrestling match for coin, pitting Kailas against Wog
  • Ordered all the meat for Kailas as his prize, resulting in a tab at the inn
  • Danced behind Kailas and used magic to bolster him during the rage-fueled arm wrestling match
  • Knocked on doors to gather the party for breakfast at the Ambercup in Session 63, eventually rousing Nyxara from her meditative prayers with increasingly loud knocking
  • Immediately suspected Sneid Arkmos when Dristuul introduced him, warning the group he looked more enemy than friend
  • Had his breakfast bowl stolen by Kailas in a surprise distraction, losing his porridge to the goliath’s appetite
  • Accompanied the party to Cinder Row in Session 64 — tried to barge into Aldric Voss’s house and, when Dristuul blocked him, enlisted Kailas to shove him (still failing)
  • Started the brawl at The Vulnerable Swordsman (Session 65) — distracted Dristuul with “look, melons!”, slipped behind the bar, was caught, and kicked off a full pub brawl, then flipped a middle finger from cover
  • Knocked unconscious by Rurik Drenn’s guns in Session 66; later had Kailas haul the dead bandits out the back of the rebuilt tavern
  • Struck by a sudden sickness as the Sand Witch left Drar eastward in Session 67 — cold shivers and cold sweats, as though something far to the East was pulling him. Given his bond with Orcus and his vision of becoming the destroyer of Mechanus, the pull is an ominous sign

Enchanted Mirror Vision

  • Saw nothing — the mirror showed him emptiness
  • His gaze specifically breaks the mirror each time he looks into it
