Session 69 - The Coffin Beneath the Water
The party fights on through pouring sand and falling cubes, then bends their minds to a gauntlet of riddles — mirror, bridge, and nothing — spoken by statues across the buried ruin. A golden key drops from the dark, an opulent door swings open, and beyond it waits a coffin, half-sunk in a glassy pool ringed by the idols of forgotten gods.
Deeper in the Cave
- The party had been travelling through the desert of Drum La’thur before being drawn down into The Buried Chamber. They resumed their adventure deep within the cave, still locked in the fight that began at the end of the previous session.
- Sneid Arkmos attacked a gelatinous cube.
- Kailas investigated the room with magical awareness, examining a collapsed corridor. As he left the room to rejoin the others, another gelatinous cube fell from the ceiling.
- Jaruul, Korin, and Nyxara could be heard nearby.
- After the battle, the group managed to solve another puzzle, lighting another brazier — bringing them one step closer to unlocking the mystery of the cave.
Jarul Will Not Stay Down
- Throughout the battle, Sneid Arkmos remained determined to put Jaruul to sleep by any means necessary.
- Jaruul, however, continued to resist his attempts — refusing to stay down as his teammates constantly helped him back to his feet to keep fighting.
The Riddles
The cave’s puzzle was a gauntlet of riddles spoken by statues scattered through the ruin. The party had to answer three more:
- Jaruul found a piece of glass, and a voice posed:
“If you drop me I’m sure to crack. Give me a smile and I will smile back.”
Sneid Arkmos answered: a mirror.
- In a chamber dubbed the eagle room, Dristuul heard:
“Men walk over, men walk under. In times of war, he burns asunder.”
Dristuul answered: a bridge.
- Dristuul then found another statue, and the riddle began again:
“What does man love more than life, fear more than death or mortal strife? What the poor have, the rich lack, and what contented men desire? What the miser spends and the spendthrift saves, and all men carry to their graves?”
Dristuul answered: nothing. With that, the pouring sand stopped.
The Golden Key and the Door
- Jaruul was the first to discover a magnificent door, decorated with an opulent figure carved into its surface.
- Dristuul successfully figured out how to light the final brazier. As it ignited, a golden key fell from above — landing directly on Jaruul’s head.
- Using the key, the group unlocked the mysterious door.
The Coffin in the Pool
- Dristuul was the first to enter the newly revealed chamber — a big chamber holding a glassy pool, ringed by statues of a forgotten idol or gods.
- At the centre of the pool, beneath the water, lay a coffin — barely visible below the surface.
