Session 60 - Black Ash
- The fight with Sylva Goldenroar erupted immediately after her ambush on Korin at the party’s desert camp. As she stabbed him, she snarled:
“You took everything from me.”
- Three assassins accompanied Sylva, striking from the shadows with poisoned blades.
- Jaruul opened with Twin Haste on Korin and Kailas, accelerating both frontliners.
- Kailas raged and toppled Sylva with a brutal hit, knocking her prone.
- Sylva fought with devastating slashing and necrotic strikes, hitting both Korin and Kailas repeatedly — her blows carried a cursed, life-draining edge.
- Dristuul kept his distance and attacked from range, while Nyxara healed the party throughout the fight with her twilight magic.
- Korin attempted to use Channel Divinity on Sylva, but it had no effect — Rakshasa are immune to spells and magic.
- Korin struck Sylva with divine smite instead, and as he did, he felt something pulling him from this plane. A portal began to open, trying to drag him through. He resisted.
- This happened repeatedly throughout the fight — each time a portal opened near Korin, he managed to shake it off through sheer force of will.
- Kailas also saw a portal open near him but resisted it as well, steeling himself after watching Korin fight it off.
- Sylva used a powerful ability that forced a Wisdom save on everyone within 30 feet — Dristuul, Kailas, and Jaruul risked 26 damage and being fragmented and incapacitated. Jaruul gambled on his save and everyone narrowly succeeded. Dristuul was briefly incapacitated.
- Jaruul used Mirror Image to protect himself from the assassins, and later created a wall to shield himself and Nyxara.
- Nyxara cast Aura of Life to sustain the party as the fight dragged on.
- Sylva nearly killed Kailas, bringing him to the edge of death. She drove her weapon into him and turned to Korin, screaming:
“People lived there! Merchants, soldiers, families, people with names! And you took every single one of them!”
- Korin unleashed a massive lightning strike on Sylva, dealing devastating damage.
- The assassins began to flee as the tide turned.
- Kailas re-entered his rage with a ferocious wind blast that knocked enemies prone, then delivered the killing blow to Sylva.
- Sylva turned to black ash and dissipated. However, Dristuul, Kailas, and Jaruul — the members of the original party who had dealt with her before — knew that a Rakshasa cannot truly be killed outside the Nine Hells. She will return.
- Kailas remarked that his Pyremaul is “gender fluid” after failing to recognize Sylva as female.
- The party mopped up the remaining assassins — one was killed by Kailas and Jaruul, the others fled.
- Dristuul walked over to where Sylva had died, scooped up the black residue, and tasted it. He offered some to Nyxara, who told him not to eat things off the ground.
- After the battle, Korin explained to Nyxara and Kailas the history between the old party and Sylva Goldenroar — how she had ruled Dumglod, imprisoned them, and pursued them since.
- Sylva’s final words before being banished back to her plane:
“You will never get rid of me, I will find you again and again no matter where you are.”
