Dravenmere
A heavily militarised settlement on Akothis, tied to Empire royalty — and the place Aldric Voss directed Kailas to seek out in order to learn the truth of his lineage.
Overview
Dravenmere is described as a heavily military-oriented settlement, populated mostly by dwarves. It carries a connection to Empire royalty: it was a place frequented by Corvin Thorian, Kailas’s father, and is the site Aldric Voss believes will reveal more about Kailas’s bloodline.
The city is embedded in a large rock — a vast dwarven city with docking towers for sky ships. It sprawls underground with many levels, home to sprawling stone markets and the great Stone Market, connected by lifts — massive vertical shafts that carve across the heights of the city. In Session 74, Marik Varn explained how the lifts work. The levels climb past the High Ring to the Drun Docks.
Dravenmere keeps its own timekeeping: locals tell the time using cicada rhythms. Skyship travel from the city to the capital costs around 100 gold.
The city has its own mysteries: missing children — one of them, Edrin Halvek, came from the upper levels and a wealthy family — and a missing worker, Peltin.
Events
- In Session 66, Aldric Voss recommended that Kailas travel to Dravenmere to uncover the truth of his royal heritage, following in the footsteps of his father, Emperor Corvin Thorian.
- In Session 67, the party set out from Drar across the eastern desert toward Dravenmere. The Sand Witch dealer Sulk told them to seek a business partner of his named Emot there.
- The party arrived at Dravenmere in Session 72 after leaving The Buried Chamber behind them — traveling through the desert via the Sand Witch
- In Session 73, the party made their final approach in the evening and entered the city with the carts and wagons. Kailas bribed a guard — Kegfoot — with a promised wife (“Tonderella”, i.e. Jaruul in disguise), earning the party special treatment and leaving the Sand Witch in the guards’ care. They ended the night at The Brass Kettle Inn, where Kailas won a drinking contest against Kegfoot and the party got 6 free rooms.
- In Session 74 (15th of Unndilar), the party spent the morning at The Brass Kettle Inn — discovering Jaruul’s transformation and gathering advice from Marik Varn — then rode the lifts up past the Stone Market and the High Ring to the Drun Docks. They investigated the missing child Edrin Halvek and missing worker Peltin at the Highwind Registry Customs Office, and met Torvek Dun outside the Drun Logistics Guildhall.
- In Session 75, the party learned that a boy had gone missing in the city and that finding him would earn them free passage. They took the elevator down into the Minrogh Quarter to investigate the trapped house of missing worker Peltin, recovering a symbolic clue and a cryptic path document. A malfunctioning service elevator then dropped part of the party deep into the mountain, into the hidden Riverworks.
- In Session 76, the party broke into a house in the Minrogh Quarter and found three murdered bodies — a man, woman, and child, killed with crawler mucus (recognised by Korin) with blood weeping from their eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Below, in the Riverworks, they were ambushed by assassins tied to the mysterious symbol and The Cradle.
- In Session 77, the party confronted and killed Peltin in the Riverworks, rescuing the kidnapped Edrin Halvek from a cavern cell — tying The Cradle to the city’s missing children.
- In Session 78, the party departed Dravenmere after being rewarded by Lord Ordane — staying at The Granite Table and boarding a luxurious skyship from the topmost port, with a letter confirming Dristuul’s trial in hand.
