Session 73 - The Dwarven City
The desert road ends at a city carved into living rock — Dravenmere, home of the dwarves. Kailas nearly gets arrested, bribes a guard with a wife, and wins a drinking contest. Jaruul plays the bride. Korin buys a map. Six free rooms and a very confused Korin later, the party is home at the Brass Kettle.
Approach and Entry
- It was evening when the party drew close enough to see the city of Dravenmere.
- They proceeded down the main path along with other carts and wagons, waiting in a queue to gain entry to the city.
- The city is embedded in a large rock — a dwarven city, large, with docking towers for sky ships.
- Korin had never seen or heard about dwarves and was very confused.
- Kailas got bored and kept trying to get drunk while driving the Sand Witch, drinking from Dristuul’s bottomless flask to pass the time — until Korin took the flask away.
- He also tried to buy alcohol from a merchant, promising him 10 gold pieces.
- To save them from his shenanigans, Korin had the idea to tell Kailas to get off the car and try to get them quicker entrance into the city by talking to the guards.
Kailas, the Guard, and a Promised Wife
- Kailas, in his infinite wisdom, almost got arrested for looking menacing — then bribed one of the guards, Kegfoot, by offering him a wife.
- Back with the party, Kailas first asked Dristuul to help pull off the scheme — Dristuul said no. Kailas then asked Jaruul, who agreed.
- Kailas had Jaruul disguise himself as a beautiful elven woman — “Tonderella” (the guard also seemed to call her “Tondela”) — who then went along with the guard as his promised wife.
- The party was given special treatment and allowed to leave the Sand Witch, as the guards would now handle it.
- The merchant who had earlier talked to Kailas came running back with a bottle of booze; Kailas paid the 10 gold pieces, then chugged the bottle whole in one swoop.
- As the party passed through the gate, they were met by Kegfoot and “Tonderella” stepping out of the city.
- Jaruul persuaded Kegfoot to pay for everyone’s rooms at the pub — and Korin and Kailas managed to convince the guard to follow them for a drink instead of taking his new wife home.
The Brass Kettle Inn
- Most of the folk in the city are dwarves. The city sprawls underground with many levels and many sprawling stone markets.
- Korin bought a map from a map-selling kid.
- The city has lifts that transport people across the levels — massive vertical shafts carved across the heights of the city. From the party’s vantage point, there were at least 5 lifts visible.
- Kegfoot led them to a pub called The Brass Kettle Inn, showing the party around Dravenmere along the way. The inn is kept by Marik Varn.
- At the inn, the party tried to dissuade Kegfoot from taking Jaruul (still disguised as “Tonderella”) — which led to a drinking contest between Kailas and Kegfoot to win the lady.
- During the contest, Kegfoot (perhaps a little drunk) called Kailas “Jaruul” — a name Korin had used — and Kailas saved it, claiming it was his nickname.
- Kailas won, of course — and Kegfoot passed out. Since Kegfoot had agreed to pay, the party got 6 rooms for free.
Evening Settles In
- Nyxara sent a message to Ishanah (via Sending) that the party was in Dravenmere. The reply came back that Moe and Brennan would come to the desert and deal with sealing the place.
- Dristuul sneakily took his bottomless flask back from Korin’s belt.
- Nyxara and “Tonderella” stayed out drinking for another hour to talk “girl stuff”, as the rest of the party headed off to their rooms.
