Obsidian Prison

The Obsidian Prison is a terrifying underground dungeon located beneath the Citadel in Shalarag. Its lower levels are reserved for special prisoners, held in place by floating obsidian pillars bound with chains.

Overview

A multi-level prison complex carved beneath Shalarag’s Citadel. The upper levels function as a standard prison, while the lower levels are something far more sinister — a cold, oppressive space where the air tastes of iron and blood, and prisoners are chained to floating obsidian pillars.

Levels

Upper Level — Regular Prison

  • Functions as a standard holding facility
  • Guarded by Ned, a prison guard
  • Overseen by the Platinum Warden

Lower Level — Special Prisoners

  • Noticeably colder than the upper level
  • The air tastes of iron and blood
  • Features floating obsidian pillars bound by heavy chains
  • Reserved for high-value or dangerous prisoners

Prisoners

  • Aldur — found chained and unconscious to one of the obsidian pillars, watched over by an armored figure
  • Neerah — chained with glowing runes that were actively syphoning her energy

Guards & Security

  • Ned — guard on the upper level
  • Platinum Warden — overseer of the upper prison
  • Varkath — a black dragonborn who commands the lower level
  • Draconic guards — serve under Varkath
  • Anti-spell wards: The party tested for magical wards and found none — a bag of holding functioned normally inside the prison

Events

  • Laudna Briarwood appeared in the Obsidian Prison
  • The party infiltrated the prison disguised as guards and prisoners
  • Upon testing for anti-spell protections, the party discovered there were none — the bag of holding worked without issue
  • Aldur and Neerah were rescued from the lower level
