Session 57 - Return to the Mansion

Back at the Mansion

  • The party returned to their mansion in Jurin and reunited with Sly.
  • Malrik woke up in the carriage, and Korin helped him out while Dorn panicked over the prince’s condition.
  • Dristuul introduced Aldur to Sly, who reacted with immediate jealousy until Dristuul calmed both of them down.
  • Inside, the party found Ishanah, Moelwyn, and Brennan waiting by the fire.
  • Ishanah stepped away to prepare food while the group gathered to recount everything that happened in Shalarag.

Wounded, Resting, and Debriefing

  • Korin suggested that the injured recover in the mansion’s special healing area.
  • Dristuul brought Aldur and Neerah to the healing pool, which Aldur found extremely exciting.
  • Aldur fetched drinks from the cellar and later mentioned overhearing part of a conversation between Brennan and Moelwyn.
  • The group discussed the fall of Shalarag, the prison beneath the city, and the fact that Aldur had been close to death before the party brought him back.
  • They also shared that prisoners in the Obsidian Prison had been drained of blood, including both Aldur and Neerah.

Questions About the Prison and Kallum

  • The party learned that Laudna Briarwood had visited the prison often.
  • Based on what Aldur overheard, the king may still have been alive while Aldur and Neerah were imprisoned, raising the possibility that a puppet or stand-in was involved.
  • The group concluded that Kallum and Laudna Briarwood are likely working together.
  • Brennan spoke about time spent in Avernus and the danger of Kallum seeking another route to Tiamat’s power.
  • They speculated that the Dragon Mask of the Queen might be Kallum’s next target.

Splitting Up in Town

  • Ishanah took Neerah and Nyxara out to relax, leading them to a massage parlor with full service and three tables.
  • Meanwhile, the others headed to The Questionable Content.
  • The tavern was almost empty despite it being late afternoon, and the group ordered drinks and snacks from a waiter named Rudy.
  • Dristuul showed Rudy some fish jerky and asked whether he could get some delivered from Urgon at The Lazy Crew in Jinsan.
  • The group drank, talked, and discussed why Theros does not drink.

Imperial Soldiers in Town

  • After their massages, the women heard heavy boots and saw soldiers in red and gold marching through town.
  • One of the soldiers announced, “By order of the crown we seek a fugitive,” while showing a sketch.
  • Nyxara recognized the man in the sketch as Kailas and immediately warned Ishanah through their telepathic link.
  • Ishanah passed the warning to Korin and Moelwyn.
  • Moelwyn altered Kailas’s appearance, and Theros cast invisibility on him so the group could slip back to the mansion unnoticed.

Kailas’s Secret

  • Back at the mansion, the party pressed Kailas for answers about why the Empire was searching for him.
  • Kailas reluctantly revealed that he is tied to the imperial line.
  • The party learned that the Emperor is his father and that the Empire wants him dead as a loose strand in the royal family.
  • The group decided the safest place to hide him was the pool room.

Cliffhanger

  • A loud knock echoed through the mansion.
  • A voice at the door demanded entry by imperial command.
  • As the tension peaked, Theros answered with: “No hablo engleis.”
