Cheon Dynasty
The Cheon Dynasty is the royal bloodline that ruled Shalarag for generations, believed by its people to be blessed by Bahamut. In truth, the dynasty carries a curse tied to Falazure, the Dragon God of Decay, whose scales — not Bahamut’s — lie sealed beneath the city’s church. The dynasty ended in tragedy: Emperor Kaelor IV Cheon was found dead weeks before the Antamian Empire’s invasion, Princess Elvara betrayed the throne to pursue Falazure’s power, and Prince Malrik was used as a blood sacrifice in her ritual.
Overview
| Type | Royal dynasty |
| Seat of Power | Shalarag |
| Fortification | The Citadel |
| Religion | Ostensibly Bahamut; in truth, tied to Falazure |
| Status | Effectively dissolved — the city has fallen, the emperor is dead, and the heirs are scattered or slain |
The Cheon Dynasty governed Shalarag from the Citadel, the fortified seat of royal power. Beneath the Citadel lies the Obsidian Prison, a multi-level dungeon whose lower chambers held special prisoners chained to floating obsidian pillars. The dynasty’s authority was intertwined with the city’s church, which was built directly over a seal binding Falazure’s essence.

The Curse of Falazure
The Cheon bloodline carries a curse tied to Falazure. For centuries, the people of Shalarag believed their city was built upon a sacred site blessed by Bahamut, and that the enormous draconic scales beneath the church belonged to the Platinum Dragon. This was a lie.
The scales are Falazure’s. The church was built directly over a seal binding the Dragon God of Decay’s essence. The royal family is not blessed — they are cursed. This revelation reframes the entire history of Shalarag and its ruling house.
The church’s depictions, long assumed to show Bahamut’s scales, in fact depict those of Falazure. High Priest Dorn Velmor served as the church’s high priest, overseeing a holy site whose true nature was hidden from him and his predecessors.
The Betrayal
Princess Elvara, discontent with her family and drawn to the power of decay, discovered the truth about the seal beneath the church. She attempted to break the seal and unleash Falazure’s essence:
- Elvara led a dark ritual using Prince Malrik’s blood to resurrect Falazure
- Malrik was drained of blood while unconscious; his soul was anchored somewhere deep below the ritual site
- The party intervened and fought an aspect of Falazure beneath the church
- Elvara was consumed by the darkness she courted and died in the battle
Malrik was later saved through a cleansing ritual led by High Priest Dorn Velmor and brought to safety.
The Fall
Emperor Kaelor IV Cheon had been dead for weeks when the party found his body. He had not received visitors for three to four months — a prolonged absence that was either a cover for his death or a sign that something had gone terribly wrong within the Citadel long before the Antamian Empire arrived.
The city ultimately fell to the Antamian Empire’s invasion. Soldiers stormed Shalarag, killing everyone in sight. Serena Voss was killed during the assault. The party fled south after the fall, directed by Ishanah to head to Jurin.
