Falazure
Falazure, also known as the Dragon God of Decay and the Dragon God of Death, is a draconic deity whose influence has been deliberately hidden from mortal knowledge. His secret role during The Calamity and his connection to Shalarag form one of the campaign’s most significant revelations.
Role in the Calamity
During The Calamity, when Bahamut and Pelor struck down Tiamat, Falazure was not an idle observer. He secretly assisted Tiamat in her war against Bahamut, providing aid that went unrecorded by historians and theologians alike.
This hidden alliance means that the accepted history of the Calamity is incomplete. Tiamat’s strength during the final battle was bolstered by Falazure’s intervention, and his influence left traces that would not be understood for centuries.
The Truth Beneath Shalarag
The city of Shalarag was built upon what its people believed to be a sacred site blessed by Bahamut. Beneath the city lie enormous draconic scales — long venerated as relics of the Platinum Dragon.
They are not Bahamut’s scales. They are Falazure’s.
This truth reframes the entire history and identity of Shalarag:
- The royal family of Shalarag is not blessed by Bahamut — they are cursed by Falazure. Their bloodline carries the taint of the Dragon God of Decay, not the grace of the Platinum Dragon.
- The church in Shalarag was built directly over a seal binding Falazure’s essence. What was thought to be a holy site is, in reality, a prison.
The Seal and Princess Elvara
Princess Elvara of Shalarag discovered — or was led to discover — the truth about the seal beneath the church. She attempted to break the seal and unleash Falazure’s essence, whether out of ambition, corruption, or manipulation.
The party intervened and fought an aspect of Falazure beneath the church — a manifestation of the god’s bound power. The battle confirmed the terrible truth about Shalarag’s foundations and the nature of the royal bloodline.
Current Status
Falazure’s full essence remains sealed, but the integrity of that seal is uncertain. With Elvara’s attempt and the party’s battle against his aspect, the situation beneath Shalarag is precarious. The Dragon God of Decay is patient, and his influence continues to seep through the cracks.
