Vestiges of Divergence

Vestiges of Divergence are legendary magical items of extraordinary power. Unlike ordinary enchanted equipment, vestiges are living artifacts — they grow and change alongside their wielders, capable of being “awakened” through specific rituals.

Awakening Ritual

To awaken a vestige, the following conditions must be met:

  1. A place of calm and magic — The ritual must be performed in a location suffused with arcane energy and relative peace.
  2. A catalyst — An object or substance connected to the deity or original wielder associated with the vestige.
  3. An act of will or sacrifice — The wielder must demonstrate resolve, often through a personal cost.
  4. Magic cost — The ritual requires significant magical energy, typically channelled by experienced casters. Ishanah and Moe have served as the party’s ritual casters.
  5. A trial or test — The wielder undergoes a vision, faces a guardian, or is otherwise tested during the awakening.

Each vestige is unique, shaped by the wielder’s experiences and choices. The same vestige in different hands could manifest in entirely different ways.

Party Vestiges

KorinSword of Trials

  • Status: Awakened
  • The Sword of Trials was already awakened through a prior ritual. It was further changed by Korin’s will, reflecting his personal growth and resolve.

DristuulVermin Shroud

  • Status: In possession
  • A vestige tied to Dristuul. Details of its awakening and full capabilities are still unfolding.

Theros — Grimoire Infinitus

  • Status: In possession (twisted)
  • Originally belonging to Ariameia, the Grimoire Infinitus was twisted by Titania’s power and passed to Theros. Its current form reflects that corruption, and its behaviour may be unpredictable.

Kailas — Pyremaul

  • Status: In possession
  • A legendary red-iron maul discovered in Moelwyn’s shop in Palebank. Kailas’s vestige awakening ritual involved the use of one of The Five Rings of Tiamat, underscoring the gravity and danger of the process.
