Sword of Trials
A Vestige of Divergence wielded by Korin. Unlike the other party vestiges, the Sword of Trials was already awakened through a prior ritual before the party discovered its true nature as a vestige.
Discovery
- Moelwyn revealed in Session 36 that the Sword of Trials was a vestige already in Korin’s possession
- This revelation came alongside the identification of Dristuul’s Vermin Shroud and Theros’s Grimoire Infinitus as vestiges
- Korin had been wielding the Sword of Trials without understanding its full significance
Awakening
The Sword of Trials was awakened not through a structured ritual or external trial, but was further changed by Korin’s will. This reflects his personal growth and resolve — the blade responded to the strength of his convictions and the trials he had already endured. The awakening is a testament to Korin’s strong-willed nature, mirroring the way his Wrathful Avenger was similarly shaped by force of will alone.
Each Vestige of Divergence is unique, shaped by the wielder’s experiences and choices. In Korin’s case, the Sword of Trials appears to have evolved in response to the hardships and moral decisions that have defined his journey — from the destruction of his village to his relentless pursuit of Laudna Briarwood.
Nature
The name “Sword of Trials” suggests a weapon forged through adversity. Where some vestiges require catalysts or dreamscape visions to awaken, this blade demanded something more personal: the accumulated weight of Korin’s lived experience. It stands as proof that a vestige can be awakened through sheer determination and the trials of a hard life.
